AU is a public university located in Aarhus, Denmark. Founded in 1928, it is Denmark’s second oldest university and the largest, with a total of 43,600 enrolled students. In most prestigious ranking lists of the world´s best universities, Aarhus University is placed in the top 100. The Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) was established in 2002 at Aarhus University. iNANO conducts interdisciplinary research in Nanoscience, based on close collaboration between researchers in physics, chemistry, molecular biology, biology and medicine with active participation of 40 senior researchers, 60 junior researchers and 150 PhD students. This interdisciplinary nature creates a unique situation, crucial for development of new nanomedicine, where experts in drug delivery, nanoscience and medicine can work closely together. The bioengineering activities at iNANO are highly competitive on the international stage, and a new 10.000 m2 building is housing all iNANO personal affiliated with this proposal.

Interest and Role in the Project

The Kjems group has a long-standing interest in regulation of gene expression at post transcriptional level

AU will participate to support a number of objectives of the project. The Kjems group has a long-standing interest in regulation of gene expression at post transcriptional level. In particular miRNA and circRNA influence mRNA expression and translation. They have many years of experience with RNA delivery and uptake in cells and how to regulate miRNA function using antisense technology. They also routinely use CRISPR/Cas technology for DNA editing and lentiviral vectors for delivery. The main focus will lie in the construction of cells that control GDNP production for tsRNA the onset of epileptic seizure.
