EU FET Open PRIME partners representing Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI) and University of Ferrara (UniFE) Italy, attended the Neuroscience Conference 2024 (SfN) in Chicago this week. Neuroscience 2024 was held in the McCormick Place Convention Centre in Chicago, USA from 5-9th October 2024.
SfN, which holds a yearly Neuroscience conference, is the world’s largest neuroscience organisation. Each year, scientists from around the world congregate to discover new ideas, share their research, and experience the best the field has to offer. The conference takes place in a different city each year and covers all areas of neuroscience which spans across several days. This year’s SfN meeting gathered thousands of neuroscientists from over 70 different countries to share their cutting-edge research on the brain and nervous system.
Presenting PRIME
RCSI’s Professor Jochen Prehn, Drs. Rachel Stewart and Elena Marie Perez Morrissey, presented posters on the PRIME project, particularly demonstrating the role of 5’ tRFs in iPSC-derived cortical neuronal models and changes in miRNA levels in rat models of TLE, respectively.
UniFE’s Professor Michele Simonato, and Drs. Marie Soukupova and Annunziata Guarino, presented a poster on the PRIME project focusing on the dynamic changes of 5’ tRFs in liquor and plasma of pilocarpine treated epileptic rats, while Drs. Barbara Bettegazzi and Lucia Crippa presented a poster on the development of localized GDNF gene therapy, which is used to treat focal epilepsy and neurodegenerative diseases.
Speaking about the experience at Neuroscience Conference 2024, Dr. Rachel Stewart said: ”Attending conferences is an essential cornerstone in scientific research as it allows you to learn about up-to-date scientific research being carried out and the most recent findings in the field. Similarly, we were able to share our data with other scientists and receive beneficial feedback about our research. We also met with industry experts and learned about new technologies and services that are available. Listening to some of the top people in the field share their research was so exciting and inspiring!”
